Time to relax and have some fun!
Once youve decided on dates, visit your travel agent as soon as possible. You may have always dreamed of honeymooning in a particular place, but dont close your eyes to what else
is on offer.
Many exotic, long-haul destinations may well be within your price range and some companies offer three weeks for the price of two so if you can spare the time, it's well worth considering. Ask your travel agent for advice on companies offering special deals for honeymooners - you may find free or discounted overnight accommodation at the airport, or complimentary flowers, chocolates and champagne at your hotel - these will add to the romance of this very special occasion.
When choosing your destination ask yourselves whether you really want to spend the holiday entirely on your own in a quiet resort or, whether you would be happier somewhere busier with more opportunity to try new sports and make new friends. If one of you prefers to keep active while the other enjoys lying on the beach take this into account and consider booking a two-centre holiday - more and more travel companies are offering this option.
Once you've made your decision, whether you're off to exotic Bali or a tour of the Lake District, confirm the booking in writing, and make sure you have all the relevant documents at least two weeks before the wedding to prevent any last minute panic.
If going abroad ensure your passports are up-to-date and that you have the necessary visas and inoculations. Your tour operator will happily advise you on those essential for your trip. And dont forget your holiday spending money - if going abroad youll need travellers cheques and local currency. Keep a list of the numbers on your travellers cheques so they can easily be replaced if lost or stolen.
- Enter
every holiday competition you come across

- Check
out any loyalty points you have with Air Miles, Nectar etc
- Look
for money saving coupons/deals in newspapers and for discount holiday vouchers on the web
- Set
up a Gift/Wish List. Try asking for foreign currency or for friends and
relatives to pay for a specific element of your honeymoon such as an excursion
or dinner out
- Make
a list of friends and family abroad , maybe they can put you up or recommend
you to the best places
- For
the best deals, book through independent travel agents, they are more open to
negotiating
- Don’t
stint on insurance, check your credit card to see if you already have travel
insurance included if you pay for your holiday on your car
- Choose
a hotel with a DVD player and take your favourite movies for those lazy days in
bed
- Plan
your days to make time for each other; one day of sightseeing followed by a day
relaxing
- Organise
lots of romantic treats; a special dinner, moonlit walks on the beach, an early
morning picnic to watch the sunrise.
- Beware
of bargain flight deals, they could triple by the time you have added taxes and
any further charges for hold luggage or any specialised equipment - sports kit,
for example - that you may wish to put in the hold
- Book
your flight with budget airlines well in advance, the earlier you book the
cheaper it is. Also, if you can, take only carry on luggage, this could also
reduce the price.
- Contact
the local tourist office for the resort, they can tell you about any special
passes or deals for attractions and
events; booking in advance may net you a
discount, and at the very least enable you to avoid queues at the ticket
offices!
Plan
your honeymoon itinerary and then make a “packing checklist” and plan your
outfits based on what you are going to be doing and be realistic.
To
avoid excess baggage charges, think about changing the look of an outfit with
carefully chosen accessories, belts, scarves, jewellery.
At
the airport, tell them you’re on honeymoon and ask for an upgrade (dress
smartly to be considered)
